Furniture Care

A simple, regular cleaning regiment will help keep your wooden furniture looking its best for years to come. Below are some helpful tips to help you care for your furniture.

  1. Dust your furniture regularly. A dry dusting helps keep fine dirt particles out of the grain of the wood. In time the dirt can build up and the finish on your furniture will loose its original luster.
  2. Clean with water only. Do not use ammonia based household cleaners, as the chemicals can break down the finish of your furniture. Using an almost dry damp cloth with water only, followed with a clean dry cloth will do the trick.
  3. Use coasters on table tops. Keeping water from sitting on the wooden surfaces saves a lot of headaches. The best coasters have cork or felt bottoms, further protecting your furniture.
  4. Keep your furniture away from direct sunlight. While the lacquer topcoats of today help protect against some UV rays, it is recommended to place your furniture where it does not sit in the sun for the entire day to avoid color fading.
  5. We all live in the real world, life just happens. In the unfortunate event that your furniture gets some dents and dings that go all of the way to raw wood, there is a great trick. Using a marker of similar color to the finish where the damage occurred to “color in the lines” will typically do the trick. Your local hardware stores will sell specialty markers for this, but just about any marker will do if the damage is not too great.
  6. A professional cleaning service is recommended whenever possible.
